How does it work?
The flu vaccine helps a person’s immune system to produce antibodies to the flu virus. This decreases the risk of contracting the flu if you are in contact with anyone who has the virus or who is high risk.
When should I get the Flu vaccine?
Flu vaccines are available from mid-September each year. It is recommended to receive a vaccination every year if you are at risk, as flu strain variants differ each year.
It’s also important to note that having received a vaccination, it takes from 10 to 21 days to be protected against the flu. So, we advise booking in for your vaccine as soon as possible.
What about children?
Flu vaccines are available to all children between the ages of 2 to 17, and is administered as a nasal spray rather than an injection. This method of vaccination is given as a small spray into each nostril. It is not painful and will work even if the child has a runny nose, sneezes or blows their nose after the vaccination.
